Welcome…

Welcome to BigCreek.org, the online home of Big Creek Church!

We’ve packed this site with information that should help you with many the questions you may have as to who we are, what we believe, and what we do. You can also head over to our media archives to listen to the latest messages, read today’s devotion from Pastor Akers (and even signup to have it sent to your inbox each morning!), and see what’s coming up. You can also check out our videos on YouTube, explore our photos on Flickr, and become our friend on Facebook.

If you need anything else just shoot us an email and we’ll get right back to you. Thanks for checking us out and we hope to see you at one of our services soon!

Why We’re Here

Big Creek Church is a thriving ministry seated in the heart of the Central Appalachian foothills that exists “To establish the people of Central Appalachia in the principles of the Kingdom of God, and thereby releasing them to rise above all cultural, historical, economic, and generational limitations so they may live abundantly within their privileges and covenant as sons and daughters of God.”

Moreover, we are a place where you’re whole family can…

...connect to the loving God through anointed and moving weekly services.
...grow spiritually by becoming involved with one of our age or gender-specific ministries.
...serve others by partnering with one of our care ministries that gives back to our community and world.

What We Believe

We believe:

  • We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the virgin birth and deity of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We believe the Holy Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. It is the sole basis for faith, doctrine, and practice of the Christian Church.
  • We believe that all men and women, because of the disobedience of Adam and Eve, are born sinners, and only through repentance and justification can they become regenerated through the New Birth, and thereby become sons and daughters of God.
  • We believe that salvation is not by any works of man, but only by God's grace, through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and that sins can only be forgiven through faith in His shed blood.
  • We believe in water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; and only those who have been Born Again are candidates for water baptism.
  • We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues as the initial evidence.
  • We believe in the present-day working of the Holy Spirit through the gifts of the Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit.
  • We believe in divine healing for all in the atonement.
  • We believe in the present-day working of the fivefold ministry of the Christian Church, namely, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers.
  • We believe in Holy Communion, and that the elements of the fruit of the vine and the bread are only symbols of the blood and body of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We believe in the washing of the saint's feet.
  • We believe in tithing and offerings and the blessing of prosperity associated with obedience to these spiritual principles.
  • We believe Sunday to be the Christian day of worship.
  • We believe in the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We believe in the literal and bodily resurrection of the dead, both righteous and unrighteous.
  • We believe in a general judgment of both the righteous and the unrighteous, the righteous to everlasting life and the unrighteous to everlasting damnation.

What To Expect

It is never easy to visit a new church for the first time so we want to be as helpful as we can to make your experience a good one. Before we go any further, let’s take care of the big question: “What should I wear?” Some people dress up and some people come casual. Come the way that you feel most comfortable--it’s really not important to us!

Prayer & Worship

In each service, we set aside for communicating with God from our hearts. In our services, we have a mix of lively upbeat songs, intimate songs of worship, and traditional hymns. Everyone worships in their own unique way–for many, that means singing and clapping, and for others it means quietly reflecting on the words. You’re welcome to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable. No one is going to make you sing!

Offering

Each week there is a time to worship God through the giving of tithes and offerings.  As a guest, please do not feel any pressure to give. This is an act of worship for our members to thank God for all of the great work He is doing in their lives, while providing Big Creek Church with the necessary means to reach out to others in the community.

The Message

During every service, one of our pastors will present a relevant, straightforward, Scripture-based message that is designed to help you develop and grow in your relationship with our loving God, while providing a strong biblical foundation for your life.
